Gut & digestion

When your gut's off, so is everything else.

Bloating and discomfort are the obvious part. The fatigue, the mood, the skin, the constant low-grade off — those trace back here more often than anyone tells you.

If this is you

You've learned to live around it.

Planning meals around how you'll feel after. Keeping a mental list of foods that turn on you. Being handed "it's just IBS" or "it's stress" — and no real explanation of why.

What you feel

  • Bloating, gas, or discomfort after eating
  • Irregularity — one direction or both
  • Foods that used to be fine and no longer are
  • Fatigue, brain fog, or skin flares alongside it

What you've been told

  • "It's just IBS"
  • "Try to reduce your stress"
  • "Add more fiber and see how it goes"
  • "Your labs are normal"

The science, made simple

Your gut is an ecosystem, not a pipe.

Inside you live trillions of microbes — a living community that helps digest food, make certain vitamins, train your immune system, and even influence your mood.

A thin, single-cell lining keeps that world where it belongs and decides what gets absorbed. When the community gets out of balance or that barrier is stressed, the effects don't stay in your belly — they show up as fatigue, fog, skin, and immune symptoms.

So a gut complaint is rarely only a gut complaint. It's often the first place a bigger imbalance announces itself.

One gut, connected to everything

This is why I never treat the gut in isolation — and why gut work so often lifts symptoms people never connected to digestion.

The ONYX perspective

Calm the terrain.
Don't just mute the symptom.

An antacid or a fiber supplement can quiet the noise for a while. I'd rather understand the ecosystem underneath — what's out of balance, what's irritating the barrier, what your gut is reacting to — and address that. Test, don't guess.

How I approach it

A real look at your gut ecosystem.

Not "add fiber and hope." A structured look at what's driving your symptoms — then a plan to calm, rebuild, and restore.

STEP 01

Your story

Your symptoms, triggers, diet, history, and what's connected to the digestion.

STEP 02

The right testing

Functional GI and related testing when it's genuinely useful, through Rupa and Access Labs.

STEP 03

Read together

What's out of balance, explained plainly and connected to how you feel.

STEP 04

Calm & rebuild

A staged plan — remove irritants, restore balance, and widen your diet back out.

What I may look at

The ecosystem, not one enzyme.

Which of these makes sense depends on your story — this is the menu, not the prescription.

  • Functional stool / GI mapping
  • Food-reaction assessment
  • Inflammatory markers
  • Nutrient status
  • Blood sugar picture
  • Thyroid & hormones

What can change

What it's like when your gut settles.

I can't promise a specific result — no honest provider can. But when the ecosystem comes back into balance, the wins often reach further than your stomach.

Comfort after meals

Eating without bracing for it. Fewer foods on the "can't" list, more freedom back.

Knock-on wins

Steadier energy, clearer skin, calmer immunity — the downstream effects people rarely expect.

Understanding your triggers

Knowing what your gut needs and why — so you can keep it settled on your own.

Straight answers

The questions I hear most.

Is my gut issue just IBS?
IBS is a real diagnosis, but it's often used as a label when the actual drivers — diet, microbiome balance, stress, food reactions, or other conditions — haven't been explored. The goal is to understand what's behind your symptoms, not stop at a name.
Is "leaky gut" real?
Intestinal permeability is a real, measurable phenomenon and an active area of research. The popular term "leaky gut" sometimes gets stretched beyond the evidence, so I approach it carefully — focusing on what we can actually assess and support rather than overpromising.
Do I need a stool test?
Sometimes functional GI testing is genuinely useful; sometimes your story and simpler first steps are enough. Which testing makes sense depends on your symptoms and history — decided together, not by default.
Will I have to cut out foods forever?
Usually not. Targeted, temporary changes are often used to calm things and identify triggers, with the goal of restoring as varied a diet as your body tolerates. Sustainable beats restrictive.
When should I be seen sooner?
Some symptoms need prompt evaluation regardless of this page — blood in the stool, unintended weight loss, difficulty swallowing, or persistent severe pain. If your situation calls for urgent or specialist care, I'll tell you plainly and help point you in the right direction.

Your next step

Let's get to the root of it.

Start with a Discovery Assessment — one conversation about your gut, your history, and what to actually test. No obligation, no pressure, no plan sold to you in the room.
